Past Meetings 2007

Saturday, February 17th

What sort of toymaker are you? The February Burghermunch Workshop on "Pervertibles" gives you the chance to be part of the workshop. The workshop will include a segment called "The Dom Depot Challenge". Basically, you go to a store that most people can easily get to and buy items to make a bdsm toy.  Assemble your components at the workshop while we watch. To make this easy for just about anyone to participate (or duplicate at home), limit your purchases to $20.00; all items must be purchased from ONE store; items need to be assembled without using any power tools and using only common hand tools.  Participants will be placed into a random drawing to receive a $25.00 gift certificate to a local restaurant. As regards the rest of the workshop, you can see common pervertibles; you are encouraged to bring pervertibles of your own for show-and-tell. Burghermunch workshops are held at the GLCC (Gay and Lesbian Community Center), 5808 Forward Avenue in Squirrel Hill/Pittsburgh, beginning at 7:30pm, on the third Saturday of each month.

Workshop at the GLCC in Squirrel Hill on Forward Ave.  7:30pm-9:30pm

Topic:  by Karl and Francine, a basic overview of what is commonly referred to as "watersports".  The evening's topics will include piss play/golden showers with a demo (which will be adapted from typical play but conditions will be modified to be able to demo within safe parameters in the presence of a audience), and enema play (no demo involved, just details of how to, safety, variations, why we do this and the psychological aspects).  Scat play will not be discussed as the topic squicks too many people.  The facilitators are not offended by a person's view or questions on scat and will be happy to take questions and discuss the issues involved privately after the workshop.  Those in attendance may feel free to leave the workshop room if at any time the discussion at hand bothers them.  If anyone is interested in assisting with the demo this evening, please feel free to write us at:  burghermunch@burghermunch.org.  In short, no, you won't get sprayed while in attendance, and no, you don't need to drink a lot of fluids beforehand if you want to participate (but you do need to contact us first).

Saturday, July 1st - Free Movie Night!!!  Shanghai Noon

Change in Plans:  Movie Night - Screw up repair in progress - PLEASE READ.  The short version:

Movie: Shanghai Noon
Time: 10:15pm (NEW TIME DUE TO CONFLICT/SCREW UP AT CINEMATROPOLIS)
Dinner: 8:30pm at Evergreen Chinese Buffet.

The long version:

We've just had a bad interaction with Cinematropolis over the scheduling of our movie night.  Francine had arranged well over a month ago for an 8pm reservation, but as of about 10 minutes ago, when she spoke with Cinematropolis management, we were informed that we can't get the theatre to ourselves at that time.  They wanted us to punt back to a midnight showing, but finally a compromise was reached for a 10:15 showing.

So...  SCHEDULE CHANGE:  Movie night for the 'Burghermunch and Leathergrrrls is at 10:15PM, Saturday, July 1st, at Cinematropolis, which is in the Penn Hills Shopping Center at the intersection of Rodi and Frankstown.  We *will* have the theatre to ourselves, so you can dress however you wish -- fetishwear is fine.  Voting for the movie came down on the side of Shanghai Noon.  If you have previously confirmed for the 8pm showing that we thought we'd have, but can no longer make the new 10:15 show time, please reply to this message to let us know.  Thanx in advance.  We get some minimal snacks (popcorn, M&Ms) as part of our group deal. Concessions will also be open for us, at 20% off regular prices.

Francine and I will be having dinner at Evergreen Chinese Buffet (Business Rt22, Wilkins Twp, next to Hooter's, just beyond Sears) at 8:30 that evening.  Evergreen is open until 10pm.  Dinner at Evergreen is not part of the group deal -- this is just an extra chance to share a meal together.

A Bcc to everyone who previously confirmed has been made with this message, so some people will get this more than once.

--karl

In lieu of our regular munch meeting this month, we will be having a Free Movie Night.  Stayed tuned here to find out more as details unfold.  As of now we will be going to the Cinematropolis Theater on Rodi Road in Penn Hills Shopping Mall.  We will have a theater entirely to ourselves and can be as crazy as we want.  We are scheduled to see a movie (title yet to be announced as they won't know for a few days) at 10:15 pmThe movie, pop, popcorn and candy are free for the first 40 people who confirm they will attend; anyone beyond the first 40 will have to pay $3.  This is a perfect event to bring your not so vanilla and curious friends to without them having to feel nervous.  To confirm, click on the following link and fill in the number of people who will be attending.

Confirmation for Burghermunch Movie Night

Also, a few of us will be going out for dinner at Evergreen Chinese Buffet on Business 22 (next to Hooters).  If you would like to join us for dinner we will be there at 8:30 pm.  After dinner we will go over to Penn Hills mall and spend some time at Lady Godiva's (which is next door to the theater) before going over to the movie.

Friday, April 16th:  Workshop at the GLCC "Fisting";  facilitated by Tammy and Bobbie.  We will be meeting once again in a new and bigger room.  Note that because of the topic for this evening, we will need to be rather discrete about opening doors during the presentation.  We will need to have a couple of people monitor the hallway; I already have one volunteer and can use another.

Tuesday, April 6th: Regular meeting at the Elbow Room (Shadyside, on Ellsworth) at 7pm.

Friday, March 19th:  Workshop at the GLCC, from 7:30-9:30 at the GLCC.  The topic is: "Basic Rope Bondage" facilitated by Ralph and lori.

Note:  There seems to have been mention of possible photography and video cameras.  We just want to make it clear, that no video recordings or photography are allowed at any of these workshops without the consent of the workshop facilitators and those in attendance at the workshop.  Please do not bring recording devices with you unless you have personally  arranged for this in advance.   Most facilitators will gladly provide you with a handout, or a summary of the workshop if you request, and you are more than welcome to take notes.  I feel it is unfortunate but necessary that I have to say this:  DO  NOT take pictures or attempt recording a workshop in anyway, or you will discover the fine art of being tossed out of the GLCC.   There are many confidentiality issues that encompass this lifestyle, so please respect the wishes of those that offer their knowledge and time in order to educate others.

Wednesday, March 24th:  Extra Munch meeting at the Union Grille, 7:00 pm.
We will be having a extra meeting at the Union Grille, 413 S. Craig Street in Oakland for the following reason:

On March 24 (Wednesday) , PATF  (Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force) debuts the Great Restaurant Event in Pittsburgh. 39 restaurants will donate 20% or more of their proceeds on this day to PATF. All we ask of you is to take your appetite to one of the participating restaurants. You're sure to find one that suits your tastes (and your budget).  The link below will take you to a page describing the event as well as the participating restaurants. I'm asking your help in two ways - first, gather friends and family, make a reservation a dine out on March 24.  Second, pass this email message along to others.   I appreciate your help and hope to see you at my favorite restaurant on March 24.
http://trfn.clpgh.org/patf/events/restaurant/.  So even if you can't make the munch this night, please try to go out for lunch or dinner at one of the participating restaurants.

Friday, January, 15th:   First workshop at the GLCC.   Topic was Sadistic Reflexology.  Even with the terrible weather, we had 20 people show up, most of whom were new. A bunch of us went out to the Eat 'n Park in Edgewood afterwards and had a great time chatting. We have found that the GLCC is expanding and we will have a much bigger meeting room next month. The timing and day seem to be working well.

Tuesday, January, 5th:  Regular meeting at The Elbow Room.  Ended up taking place at New York New York due to a conflict in schedules at The Elbow Room.

Past Meetings 1998

Go up one year

Tuesday, November 24:  The final menu for the Christmas party on December 11th was chosen.  We will be choosing from menu #1 which is about $12 a person and about $15 with tax and tip (which is automatically figured in).

Tuesday, November 10:  Regular meeting at The Elbow Room.  It was noted that one of the problems that has incurred after the last few munches is that there was a very short amount left for the waitress at the end of the night.  Please figure in an appropriate tip and make sure you cover the amount you eat and drink.  It was decided that the date of the Burghermunch Holiday party will be Friday, December 11th at 7pm.  A list of restaurants was decided upon and will be looked into.  It was decided that as of the first of next year the Burghermunch will meet the first Tuesday of the month at The Elbow Room, and the third Friday of the month at a more discrete locale for open discussions and demonstrations.

Past Meetings 1996 and 1997

Go up one year

Mid-summer 1997:  Burghermunch starts over - moving back to Ritter's Diner and then to The Elbow Room.  Much of the earlier core group returns. Attendance rises steadily.

By early 1997:  Attendance dwindles to nearly nothing.

Monday, February 26, 1996:  This new munch in Pittsburgh holds its first meeting at Ritter's Diner on Baum Blvd. It is held on the 2nd and 4th Mondays.  Soon, meetings shift to the Eagle.

February 8, 1996:  Karl uses a near-dead mailing list at CMU to suggest beginning a munch group in Pittsburgh.  (Another Pittsburgh-area munch met irregularly a couple years earlier, and this mailing list was used to coordinate it, but it died off.)  The idea for the name, Burghermunch, was deliberately and consciously taken from the original Bay Area burgermunch started in 1992. The idea was to meet like-minded friends informally over dinner.
